Our first stop of the day was the Jolly Green Giant (of Green Giant vegetables). Unlike the frying pan, it was very large. And there was a modern museum with Green Giant tchotchkes.

Afterwards, we went to the falls in Sioux Falls. This was a stop DH really wanted to take a photo of, even though it looked less impressive than other falls we had already seen on the trip. I was thinking we’d at least find a decent lunch, since it was a city, but we spent so long at the Jolly Green Giant that we needed to make a food stop before we got to Sioux Falls.

From Sioux Falls, we headed to the Porter Sculpture Park. It was out in the middle of nowhere right off the highway. The sculptor said that he grew up in a place even more isolated than there. We all enjoyed his sculptures and the humor in his artwork. As a bonus, we saw the world’s largest (?) horse and bull sculptures.

DH and the kids were very nervous that we wouldn’t make it to the Corn Palace before it closed at 5pm. DH had promised that it was a large souvenir shop so the kids really wanted to make it. All of the artwork on the outside and inside of the building was made from corn cobs. That was pretty impressive. But that was really it. When you went in the building, it was basically a multi use gymnasium with a stage, basketball court and stadium seating. The court was being used as a souvenir shop.

After the souvenir shop, we headed to the first of our less than quality hotels. This two story hotel did not have an elevator so DH convinced the desk clerk to give us a room on the first floor, since we have so much stuff with us. We got a pet room and wow did it smell like a pet room. There was a puddle on the floor that we’re not sure if it was left over from a pet or leaked from the fridge. Either way, I don’t know what happened in that room because I don’t think our house full of pets ever smelled like that room. The bath towels were about the size of the pool towels we had gotten instead of bath towels at the other hotel.
